Just driving about around the Rosscarberry/Clonakilty/Timoleague area today. Seen 20+ Sandwich Terns off Ownahincha, but there's not much else in the bird line about, so why not see some stones instead.
A quick look at the map, shows that there is a Standing Stone, which looks quite easily accessable not too far from Timoleague, in the Townland of Burrane.
It's relatively easy to find, and when I get into the field, it is a great surprise to find that it is pure white quartz. It's quite a sizeable lump too at 1.8m in height by 1.5m x 1.2m.
The views are far reaching, but unspectacular - the land is flat, with no outstanding landmarks.
