Killaneer standing stone

29th July 2014
Having been on an unsuccesful attempt to find the wedge tomb up at Slieve Owen, I've decided to call in and see the Standing Stone in the townland of Killaneer (Cill an Féir - Church of the meadow). This is unfamiliar territory for me and there are a maze of lanes to negotiate before I find it.

It's a fine large stone, some 3.2m high and standing near the field boundary. There's a convenient gate into the field. Luckily there are no Cows in the field, but there is the usual electric fence to duck under.
